Samaria gorge 🥾 hiking tour
Experience the adventure of a lifetime with our Samaria Gorge excursion, beginning early in the morning as our comfortable bus picks you up directly from your hotel. Embark on a journey to the west of the island, pausing midway in the charming village of Skaleta for a delightful breakfast amidst tranquil surroundings.
Upon reaching the plateau of Omalos, our knowledgeable guide will provide you with essential information before commencing the hike. Enjoy the freedom to explore at your own pace, with the guide ensuring everyone's safety and providing assistance whenever needed. Rest assured, the guide will designate a meeting point at the bottom of the gorge, ensuring a seamless and stress-free experience.
The descent into the gorge begins from Xiloskalo, marking the entrance to the 18-kilometer-long canyon, renowned as the longest in Europe. Spend the next 5-6 hours traversing this rocky terrain, following the path of the mountain river Taras. Along the way, discover caves once used as shelters during wartime, now inhabited by the iconic Cretan mountain goats, Kri-Kri. Encounter the abandoned village of Samaria and the awe-inspiring Iron Gates, a narrow passage just meters wide and towering 300 meters high.
Emerging from the gorge, arrive at the picturesque fishing village of Agia Roumeli, where a well-deserved lunch and a refreshing dip in the crystal-clear waters of the Libyan Sea await. Conclude your adventure with a scenic boat ride to the village of Chora Sfakion, where our awaiting bus will transport you back to your accommodation, ensuring a seamless and unforgettable journey through one of Crete's most spectacular natural wonders.
